Dressing Window Seats

May 2024

Our house was built with 5 Bay Windows, and 3 of them have window seats. One of these is in our guest room. As the room is not exceptionally large, I decided the window seat needed to be another surface where I could place items our overnight guest might need. The guest room is decorated in a southwest style (we are from Arizona), so I arranged western-themed objects in the window seat for the comfort of our visitors. The blue Sun/Moon Pottery Vase (with dried native wildflowers) is an identical match to the 2 lamps I have on the nightstands in the room. Also in the scene are 4 porcelain Horse sculptures from the 1950s.  Taking center stage is a vintage 1930s Hazel Uranium Glass Lidded Water Pitcher, 2 Water Goblets, and a Tray (always filled with ice water before our guests arrive). Beside the water station is a small green cut glass dish which I always fill with mints for our visitors. Rounding out the setting are 2 trinket boxes (one was made in Mexico with wrought iron hardware; the other by a local artist with a slate lid depicting western horses). 2 aromatherapy candles and an alarm clock finish the window seat.
